Identity and specifications

Maker, form, weight, purity, origin, era, and series are checked against mint documentation, museum or government references, established refinery histories, and reputable bullion catalogs. Similar names do not automatically mean identical products; weights, marks, dates, and formats are treated as distinct attributes.

Photography and image rights

Ouncebound uses real product photographs only when the pictured piece, photographer or issuing source, reuse terms, and required attribution can be documented. Each published photograph links to its source and license. Exact matches are labeled as verified issue photos; a stable series design photographed in a different year is labeled with the pictured year beside the record year.

The current audited layer uses 12 distinct, rights-cleared photographs across 147 catalog records. Product family, weight, form, and—where the design is dated—pictured year must match before a photo is published. A wrong-weight bar, an undated annual coin, or a dealer image without explicit commercial reuse rights remains a render.

Resizing, cropping, presentation masking, background transparency, and WebP conversion are disclosed as image adaptations. Creative Commons ShareAlike adaptations remain available under the same license. A source link identifies the photograph and does not imply that the photographer, mint, or Wikimedia endorses Ouncebound.

Digital catalog render policy

When a defensibly reusable photograph is unavailable, the catalog falls back to an original, AI-assisted Ouncebound representation. Weight-appropriate proportions, cast or minted surface character, edge thickness, wear, and studio lighting help distinguish each form. The catalog layer supplies the record’s maker, issue, weight, purity, and year.

These remain representative illustrations—not authentication photographs. Coin portraits, annual wildlife scenes, licensed characters, mint logos, serial numbers, packaging, and die-specific details are intentionally not recreated. Collectors should compare a physical piece with official mint documentation or a trusted dealer before purchasing or authenticating it.

History and sources

History sections summarize identifiable programs, makers, designers, technical features, and relevant dates. Each record links to a principal source. Broad family histories can apply to several weights, but edition-specific statements are avoided unless the cited source supports them.

Archive XP

Archive XP is an optional account progression system based on actions, not object value. A first record view earns 5 points and cataloging the first example of any unique piece earns 20. Rarity, price, weight, and additional quantities do not increase the reward.

Corrections

Cataloging physical bullion is iterative. If a weight, form, date, image, or history is wrong, email corrections@ouncebound.com with the record URL and a reliable source. We prioritize errors that could cause misidentification.
