The 2009 issue is one chapter in the series. Münze Österreich introduced the one-ounce Silver Philharmonic in 2008, nearly two decades after the gold version. The .999 fine coin carries a €1.50 denomination and became the first major euro-denominated silver bullion coin.

Chief engraver Thomas Pesendorfer built both faces around Vienna’s musical identity: the Great Organ of the Musikverein appears on the obverse, while orchestral instruments associated with the Vienna Philharmonic fill the reverse. The core design has remained deliberately stable from year to year.
