The 2016 issue is one chapter in the series. China’s Silver Panda series began in 1983. From 2016 onward, the principal silver coin moved to a 30-gram metric standard. With rare exceptions, the reverse panda scene changes annually, while the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests remains the architectural anchor on the other face.

Changing imagery makes the date visible at a glance and encourages complete year sets. Differences in weight standards, finishes, mint production, and small design details also give specialists more to study than a typical bullion program with one fixed design.
