History & collecting context

Britain’s bullion emblem.

The 2026 issue is one chapter in the series. The Royal Mint added a silver Britannia to its bullion range in 1997, ten years after the gold coin. Issues from 2013 onward use .999 fine silver, a change that aligned the coin with the international bullion market.

Philip Nathan’s standing Britannia—helmeted, holding a trident and shield—gave the series its enduring identity. In 2021 the bullion design gained waves that animate as the coin turns, surface animation behind Britannia, micro-text, and a latent security feature, turning the national emblem into a modern authentication system.
