Britain’s bullion emblem.
The 1999 issue is one chapter in the series. The Royal Mint added a silver Britannia to its bullion range in 1997, ten years after the gold coin. This early issue uses Britannia silver at .958 fineness while still containing one full troy ounce of fine silver.
Philip Nathan’s standing Britannia—helmeted, holding a trident and shield—gave the series its enduring identity. In 2021 the bullion design gained waves that animate as the coin turns, surface animation behind Britannia, micro-text, and a latent security feature, turning the national emblem into a modern authentication system.
